Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park – Bingo Industries
About:
The most advanced waste recycling facilities within Australia. The Eastern Creek REP has an important role to play in providing an environmentally sustainable and enduring solution to dealing with Sydney’s waste and limited landfill supply. A 52.4-hectare site, that comprises fully operational Materials Processing Centres and a Segregated Materials Processing Area, and a general solid waste (non-putrescible) landfill with a large number of heavy vehicles accessing the site daily.
Challenges:
The site accommodates a large number of heavy vehicles daily along with a large number of personnel moving within the site and in between main buildings which creates a number of hazardous locations and unsafe movements between traffic and pedestrians. The most effective solution to minimise risk on industrial sites is the use of line marking and signage however it was a challenge on this site. The site was not asphalted and due to a large number of heavy vehicle movements, line marking was not the most effective solution in instance and certainly was not a sustainable option.
Solutions:
The safety of all users and the risk mitigation process were at Bingo’s forefront of mind at all costs, and this is where we assisted Bingo to achieve its safety goals.
All potential hazardous locations were identified throughout the site and a number of innovative solutions were proposed and installed (in progress) across the site along with the installation of wayfinding signs, high-mounted traffic control devices aimed at improving the safety of pedestrians and assisting the safe access of traffic within the site such as automatic pedestrian detection device, pedestrian access gates, dynamic traffic signs and improved lighting systems across the site. The site is still under development, and we are assisting Bingo to achieve all its safety goals and reduce potential risks to ZERO!
